Managing Bmitzvey Hormones

BE”H

My hormones are raging, and I feel like my pubescent bmitzveys an urgent need to jerk off and find someone I can be intimate with. Instead, I try to relax into the warm pool of blood streaming through my body and head, and edgily wait for my desires to wane. Paralyzed actor Christopher Reeve once described the feeling, explaining he couldn’t bear not being able to get rid of an insect tickling his nose. I have to control my impulses if I want to set an example for the boys who are learning the line in the Shema that goes: “velo taturu aharei levavchem ve’ahare eineichem”. My erupting hormones make it hard for me as it does for bmitzveys to agree that it is far better to use sex to communicate affection and appreciation rather than to engage in unrestrained lust. Gawd!!!

I’m eating Oreo cookies and reading about Nir Katz, zt”l, to reign in my hormones. Chocolate always helps.

Nir was as exemplary teacher of Israeli lgbtq teenagers. Here is what people who knew Nir Katz, zt”l, say about him:

“He knew exactly what they were going through and he gave each person respect… He truly was a sensitive soul, who really did care about everyone… Nir was always a very positive boy who never said anything to hurt anyone… “ Nir’s cousin Carmel Tanaka, in a jewishindependent.ca article by Pat Johnson

“Nir Katz was my boyfriend… He always just wanted the best for everyone and helped where he could.” Thomas Schmidt, Nir’s intended spouse in a response on answers.yahoo.com

“He was not the typical gay stereotype… He was not even a human stereotype or an Israeli stereotype. He was a person who volunteered. He had a purpose in life. I don’t think I know anyone who has a purpose here and he just did.” Nir’s friend Re’em Gefen in a Jerusalem Post article by Zack Colman

“Nir was the most special guy that I ever met before. He took care of everyone, he just kept everybody safe.”  Shir Sela in a Jerusalem Post article by Zack Colman

“Many times children escape to the streets and approach a counselor. Nir saved many kids’ lives…” Nir’s friend and fellow counselor Noa in a ynetnews.com article by Eli Senyor
