Chastity “Chaz” Bono has been in a relationship for the past 5 years with a female. And while Chaz’s gender transition self-admittedly only began in March 2009, Chaz suggests in a CNN interview with Anderson Cooper that it was a non-lesbian relationship.
OK, let’s try to imagine this: Jen, presumably short for “Jennifer”, is in a relationship with Chaz, born as a female and known for decades as Chastity Bono. And the relationship is not a lesbian relationship?
I would not hold up Chaz as a poster child for the GLBT community. Chaz goes on to say that as Chastity, “I was never really a lesbian” and “I just looked like one” . The comments get more absurd with statements such as “I never felt like one or acted like one” and descriptions of the relationship as “not really a typical lesbian relationship”. Chaz admits not know what a typical lesbian relationship is, but knows it wasn’t what she and Jen shared.
Chaz: It’s clear you only speak for yourself. Why not speak for yourself more quietly? If I were gay or lesbian, I’d find your statements offensive as being self-dishonest and condescending. Being straight, I just find your comments asinine!
Once again, I am writing about a non-story but only to point out the absurdity of what passes for news or material worthy of a news network like CNN.
